Chief Risk Officer, Sasol Alexandra Russell is the Chief Risk Officer of Sasol, a chemicals and energy company that safely and sustainably sources, produces and markets a range of high-quality products on a global scale.

She is a dynamic, results-driven admitted attorney with a proven track record of performance delivery in over 20 years of experience. From project managing regulatory projects to stakeholder management, her expertise also covers strategic thought leadership and governance, risk and compliance (GRC) management with a particular focus on sustainability. She holds a Sustainability Management Certificate by Cambridge University and completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Management, Business Studies at the Berlin ESMT. Alexandra was awarded an Africa Sustainability Leadership Award in 2016 in recognition of her contribution to sustainability thought leadership.
She is currently a trustee on the Sasol Siyaka Trust which offers loan funding to help develop qualifying South African entities service their contracts while growing their businesses. She was also a member of the Advisory Council for Occupational Health and Safety (ACOHS) as specialist for Occupational Safety general management, with an in-depth knowledge on the legal application and interpretation of SHE regulations.
She was a project finance legal specialist for Absa Capital for 7 years, while also managing several large regulatory change projects. At Sasol, she led and directed strategy formulation, implementation and execution for the Governance, Risk and Regulatory Compliance function across, initially, the Sasol Gas operations and then now, as CRO, internationally. Prior to her role as CRO, she served as the VP: Strategy, Policy and Sustainability and the function won several awards under her leadership in particular for sustainability reporting. Thanks to her analytical skills, she is able to build strategic alliances at a senior leadership level and provide solutions to deliver key business objectives. In addition, her strong drive for achievement and to excel together with her ability to motivate and encourage people allows her to enhance performance as well as to make the case for change.
